As parents we tell our kids to wait until we are off the phone then they can ask us something. At the doctor's office we are told to wait until the doctor is ready to see us. That ever so long red light when no one is coming for miles and miles makes us wait to go until it turns green. We spend a lot of time waiting.
But what does it really mean to "wait"? Recently I was reading a letter that came in the mail from Don Deluzio. He learned the definition of "wait" from his college football coach. It brings waiting to a whole nother level. Usually we equate waiting with...waiting. Doing nothing much until something happens. Instead, waiting really means being in a ready position. It's an action word. As Don puts it, waiting is being like a linebacker waiting for the ball, "ready to act when the pigskin [is] snapped...to spring into action!" So, the next time you find yourself waiting for something, especially if it is a yet-to-be answered prayer, wait in a ready position. Isaiah 40:31 gives us a promise about waiting. "But they that wait upon the Lord (there's some meditation going on there) shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Ready? Set? Wait... #wait #waitinginareadyposition #notnow #soar #promise #angels #whereisyourangel #angelwatchingoverme #elf #shelf #kidsangelbooks #gottagetmyangel #startyourangelsmission

Recently my youngest got Swimmer's Ear. (Insert "uuggghhh" here.) He started complaining that his ear hurt. It looked like wax build up so I put some alcohol on the end of a cotton swab and carefully cleaned along the opening of his ear. With doctor supervision, it eventually cleared up.
In case you find yourself or a loved one this summer experiencing pain in the ear here is a portion of a blog from Pediatrician Deepa Sukumar. She is available for consultations no matter where in the world you are via a secure video link through www.gracemdconnect.com. Here's what she says:

She has two daughters ages 11 and 8. She said her family incorporated the angel into their Christmas last year. Her daughters were excited about the angel's arrival.
The older daughter even decided she would play the part of "hider" while the younger daughter played "seeker" of the angel. Each night the older daughter would hide the angel while the younger one would look for it in the morning. This mom loved it and said it is a great addition to their family and has even started a new tradition for them. Her family named their angel, Michael. Even though their angel is packed away with their Christmas decorations, your family can keep the angel around all year. Angels are for every day or every holiday. So whether you bring your angel out at Christmas or hold it every night as you read the angel stories, your angel is glad you started its mission. #startyourangelsmissiontoday #whereisyourangel #radiodjendorsed #funwithangels #angelbooksforkids #angelonthemantle #shelf #bedtimestory #nameyourangel #greatfamilyaddition #elf #angelwatchingoverme #hideandseek Isn't it nice to have an evening off from cooking without having to order to go or spend money dining out? Isn't it nice when you can say, "We're having leftovers tonight," is met with an exuberant, "Yay!"
Well I'm going to give you a leftover remix that is sure to please your tribe. Our family recently had Chicken Teriyaki for dinner. It's a super easy meal to make with those frozen vegetable mixes. I also bake egg rolls or spring rolls to go with it and add a side of rice (brown, basmati, jasmine, etc.) and it's a complete filling meal. Well, after our Chicken Teriyaki dinner I put the leftovers away. It wasn't enough for another family meal so we could not have it again the following night. An idea came to me to make the leftovers Chicken Fried Rice. The following night, I made a little more rice to add to what we had. Then cut the chicken up in bite size and smaller pieces. Another bag of frozen vegetables was added - this time a bag of broccoli florets. One egg was cooked up to add into the rice. There was another box of egg rolls in the freezer (love those BOGOs!) And the meal was ready for a remix repeat. It was loved by all AND we had enough leftovers to have it a second night! Share your remix repeats with us (successful or otherwise!) We find leftover love stories some of the tastiest stories around. We can really sink our teeth into them. #leftoverloves #remixrepeats #whereisyourangel #angelwatchingoverme #kidsbooksonangels #angelonthemantle #elf #shelf #watchmanangel #kidsbooks #educational #yummy #satisfying One of our missions here at Where Is Your Angel?™ is to give families opportunities to share moments that make memories. We love the stories you tell us about how the angels have started new traditions in your home, how your kids love the angel, and how the messages in the books add meaning to your lives.
Recently there has been in the news the matter of keeping families together. Although this is not a political blog, it is a blog about families. I wanted to briefly chime in for those of you who are politically charged and give us all some food for thought. Keeping families together is a noble cause. Intact families provide many benefits to countries and society on numerous levels. If the legitimate goal is to keep families together, it should start in our own backyards. It should start by removing or dismantling the systems in place that make it easy to tear apart families. This would happen by repealing "no fault divorce." If you look at what has torn apart more families and kept them from being together over the last 30 years it is the notion and law of "no fault divorce." I could go into a dissertation supporting this position but that is not blog appropriate. If you would like to further discuss this issue, please go to the "Contact Us" page and complete the form. I welcome healthy debate and ideas that bring unity and not discord. Keeping families together...what we pray for. #keepingfamiliestogether #repealnofaultdivorce #noblecause #angels #whereisyourangel #angelwatchingoverme #angelbooksforkids #shelf #elf #angelonthemantle #familyblog Angels are something we can all believe in. Whether you are Christian, Jew, or no religious affiliation. Eight out of ten people believe - in angels. Whether you are an adult, a child, a teenager, a senior. Belief in angels is up there with belief in God. An overwhelming majority believe. We created this series for the majority. In fact, we have two products right now to encourage and foster your belief about angels.
Our first book, Angel Watching Over Me, has Bible stories in it. Three to be exact - two from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament. You will find a list of fifteen Bible verses at the end of the book on angels. In fact the angel beckons the reader, "Open your Bible and find the stories in this book outlined in: Numbers...." It's a fun book with further study. A healthy identity and self-image are also promoted in this book. This book is also available as an eBook on Amazon. Available as an eBook on our website in August! The second book, Where Is Your Angel?™, was produced with everyone in mind. If you have no religious affiliation, or if you are Christian or Jewish or fill in the blank, this book is for you. It is mainstream in its angel message. The illustrations are vivid. The story is humorous and thoughtful. It is told from the angel's perspective and has some lively angel antics in it. This book promotes forgiveness and treating others well. Both books tell the real reason angels exist. More than just books. Each book comes to life with your very own included watchman angel. A handy carrying case is included as well for both the book and the angel. Isn't it nice to have something we can all believe in? Something we can all rally around that also provides meaningful moments to share. #believe #angels #whereisyourangel #angelwatchingoverme #angelbooksforkids #watchmanangel #elf #shelf #angelonthemantle #meaningful #mainstream #christian #jew #angelebook Looking for an easy way to bring some order to your house and purge some items you no longer use? Years ago, before kids, my closet was not only color coordinated it was also seasonally organized. For example, all my pinks were in one spot and they were organized with all sleeveless together, then all short-sleeved together, then all long-sleeved together. There was no co-mingling of long-sleeved and sleeveless if there was a short-sleeved around. It was so organized. I was able to see all colors and styles in one spot!
Then enter babies, nursing, sleepless nights, and chaos - beautiful chaos. Now that the kids can go potty by themselves (and in theory I should have more time) I made the decision to get back to an organized closet. It is not completely done yet. Sometimes things are baby steps, sometimes things are growth spurts. What has been organized gives me a sense of accomplishment. And I was able to purge about a dozen items - giving them to family or the Salvation Army. Hubby got in on the action too. Not the color coding part but the purging part. He took at least a dozen shirts out of his closet to give away. Ahh...it's a great feeling. So if you are feeling a little (or a lot) overwhelmed with your closet, start organizing it by color. It will be easier to get dressed in the morning and easier to give clothes away. It will also save you some money. I found more than one duplicate shirt. Must've really liked that style! #happyclosetorganizing #colorcoding #ahh #orderinthehouse #giveaway #whereisyourangel #angelbooksforkids #angelwatchingoverme #angels Friday we had the wonderful opportunity to spread the message of angels to the residents of the Russell Home for Atypical Children. These special people were enthusiastic about the angel books. They gave a roaring round of applause after our story time. We brought a few printables found on the "Kids" page of our website. You can see some of their artwork below. We also brought them books from our book drive that we collected in conjunction with Chick-fil-A. The people at the Home were soo excited for these gifts! Thank you to all who donated and made it possible. You are special and made their day! It is one of our favorite times of the year here at Where Is Your Angel?™ This day only comes around once a year and it could almost be considered sacred. Almost...
We stop what we are doing and we don our spots. Cow spots that is. Even our angels get in on the action. Although they don't get a free entree for doing so. It is Cow Appreciation Day today at Chick-fil-A's the world over - or maybe just in the USA. Either way, we absolutely love this day and it is a highlight of our summer. Yes, whether that sounds pathetic or not, a free chicken sandwich while dressed as a cow is a summer highlight. So, grab your angel, give it some spots, put on your best cow costume and consider dinner done. Grab your herd...it's time to mooove on down to your nearest Chick-fil-A. Remember to keep tagging us in your photos!! #summerlovin #cowappreciationday #udderlydelishuschikin #angelsnchikin #whereisyourangel #angelwatchingoverme #kidsangelbooks #dinnersdone #chickfila Looking for a good cookie recipe to make this weekend? We found a good peanut butter cookie recipe that calls for whole wheat flour. It's a better for you cookie with only a handful of ingredients.
Heavenly Peanut Butter Cookies Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 1/2 c. extra virgin olive oil 1/2 c. raw honey 1/2 c. peanut butter (only use 1 or 2 ingredient peanut butter) 2 c. whole wheat flour 2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 c. chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, peanuts, or a mix) In a small bowl, stir together olive oil, honey and peanut butter. Stir until smooth. In a large bowl mix together flour and baking soda with a fork. Once mixed together, add the wet ingredients to the flour. Stir together with a spatula. You can also mix together with your hands - depending on how dirty you want to get. Form into 1/2" balls and place on a stainless steel baking sheet or parchment paper on an aluminum or Teflon baking sheet. (Stainless steel is recommended as aluminum and Teflon both outgas chemicals that get absorbed into your food.) Flatten with a fork. Optional: Put one whole pecan on top of each cookie or add raisins. Bake 5 minutes. Cool on a cooling rack. Eat, enjoy, repeat!!
