11 Days of Thanksgiving

You've heard of the 12 days of Christmas, but have you heard about the 11 days of Thanksgiving?

As a family, we created this song in 2020 to bring some recognition to an often overlooked, yet important, national holiday. The 11 days of Thanksgiving is sung to the tune of the 12 days of Christmas but the lyrics are related to the holiday of giving thanks.

Since tomorrow marks 11 days until Thanksgiving, today is the perfect time to start the first lyric so that by Thanksgiving Eve, you will have all 11 verses to sing around your Thanksgiving table.

Here we go!

The first line is repeated each time before the next lyric. It is, "On the _____ day of Thanksgiving, we recount gratefully..."

The first stanza is, "On the first day of Thanksgiving, we recount gratefully a Mayflower on the sea."

The trip to the new world was on the Mayflower. There were 102 passengers on board, including 30+ children. Originally 2 ships set sail for the new world, know as America. The second ship, the Speedwell, started to leak almost immediately after leaving the harbor. Both ships turned around and headed back to England with some of the Speedwell's passengers boarding the Mayflower.

Hence, there was a solo ship sailing on the sea.
