Do your kids ever bug you to buy a video game or download an app that ALL the kids in school are playing? As a parent, we need to be vigilant about what our kids are playing, watching, and doing and for how long they are playing, watching, and doing these things. And to add one more to the list- we need to be aware of who they are doing these things with.
Noted psychologist, Dr. James Dobson, whose books on child rearing have impacted how my husband and I raise our kids ("Bringing Up Boys" is a favorite) recently discussed an alarming international survey. He cautions parents about how much time their kids are on any form of media. This major international study shows a direct correlation between a child's exposure to violent content and his or her aggressive, often violent behavior exhibited later in life. We all want the best for our kids and sometimes that means saying "no" despite their constant requests. Be firm, be fair, be loving. They may not appreciate it in the right now but it is better for them, and you, in the long run.
